County Elections Must Go Ahead
The Conservatives at County Hall are planning to cancel local elections this May. They have written to the Government today asking for County Council elections this year to be stopped.
The move shows that the Conservatives back the Labour Government's scheme to scrap local decision making in our area. If the Tories have their way, Boroughs like Oadby and Wigston will either be taken over by Leicester's Mayor or become part of a huge super authority and decision making will become more remote from local people
Liberal Democrats believe the elections should go ahead. County Councillors have 4-year terms and it is wrong to give councillors extra time (and allowances) that they were not elected to have:
County Councillors should face the voters as scheduled this May. If you agree you can sign the petition to the County Council to stop elections here being cancelled.
