Stop the May Local Elections from being cancelled

The Labour government wants to create huge, remote super councils, which would mean abolishing Borough Councils like ours. Local Conservatives have backed these plans by asking for County Council elections this year to be cancelled.

Liberal Democrats believe the elections should go ahead. County Councillors have 4-year terms and it is wrong to give councillors extra time (and allowances) that they were not elected to have: they should face the voters as scheduled this May.
If you agree you can sign the petition to the County Council to stop the cancelling of the elections here.

A cross on a ballot.

Stop the May Local Elections from being cancelled

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose Leicestershire County Council’s proposal to delay the May 2025 local elections. We call on the Minister of State for Local Government and English Devolution to respect the democratic process and allow the elections to proceed as scheduled.
